Photo Blog Stream: Constructing a Wrap Top Wed, 19 Jul 2006 18:19:17 +0000 Designer Ella Fashion Carnivale of Couture Scrap Pages Fashion Incubator’s very, very tough question for the Carnivale …

Tell us about the most technically complex garment you have either owned or constructed.

made me realize something: my clothes are very low maintenance.

shirtIt is the outfits I put together that make most of what I wear special. (And even then, they are not so technically complex, just well put together and always either dressy or over-dressed.) Sure, some tops have details, and most of my wardrobe is very nice, but it’s not “technically complex” to my eye.

But some things may be hard to put on, right? There are the pants with a zipper, buttons, and then another button to the side. Bathroom trips, oh wait for me to get ready!

Still, I cannot remember one overly done ensemble or my entire history of apparel, so I was a bit stuck. And I’m afraid my answer shows that.

It is one new top that I would have to choose for this. I’ve arranged a photo array blot entry for you…

Not much, but takes a few seconds more of effort. Yet it comes out just looking simple, clean and sophisticated.

Just remember, a lot more goes on at every level (that I did not get into) for a “this old thing” look!

Don’t dress in something translated as “of the whores,” people!

And the designs … it’s like Jenny went from the block to the corner and still ended up with a line.

Yosifa Penina Barrettes Thu, 13 Jul 2006 15:13:34 +0000 Designer Ella Accessories Hair style Yosifa Penina BarrettesYosifa Penina barrettes are molded out of rubber into textured, stylish hair pieces. They’re flexible, comfortable to wear, waterproof and chlorine resistant. Consumers may choose a barrette in anything from sophisticated to whimsical styles. There’s a barrette for every lover of pulled back hairdos.

One note; the barrette may not hold a full ponytail (like the picture) for women with thicker hair (like myself). We can still put up half of the hair, though. Or…

Tip: Pull your hair back into a ponytail, then clip the barrette in (some of) the hair above!

Barrettes are $8 at 3 ½” length x 1″ height.

Ahh! Feet! Feet Blog!! Wed, 12 Jul 2006 18:00:04 +0000 Designer Ella Media I’ve discovered, by getting a lot of referrals, a foot blog. Eek! You may know of my fear of feet (unless beautifully sandaled), as I make it clear here. (Though I’ve also shown my feet in shoes on this blog, is that how FeetMan78 found us?)

Feet in sandals
A prettier image.

It’s a bit much for moi to take, as there’s even rotating Flickr graphics. Eek, again!

Tip: Visit at your own *adult* risk: Feet on the Ground.

And oi! the search hits I’ll get for this entry.

Devil Tales: Heels n’ Driving don’t mix! Tue, 11 Jul 2006 16:45:13 +0000 Designer Ella Shoes Heels Media Muses Ella's Quotes of Wisdom Let the message out; Don’t let Friends Drive Heeled!

A quote from The Devil Wears Prada,

The little car bucked wildly twice before it lurched forward through the intersection. My heart flip-flopped in my chest. Without warning, the lurching evened out and I began to pick up speed. Lots of speed. I glanced down to confirm visually that I was only in second gear, but the rear end of a cab loomed so large in the windshield that I could do nothing but jam my foot on the brake pedal so hard that my heel snapped off. …

Gosh, everyone knows that one switches into sensible, closed-toed, shoes when taking the wheel. Andy is a danger to fashion!

Shoe Mate, a Tip to Lengthen Body Tue, 11 Jul 2006 16:10:25 +0000 Designer Ella Shoes Fashion The Rules I discovered this by doing:

If you want to lengthen your body, or slim it as well, wear shoes that closely match your pants/shorts/skirt. Interest-wise, you might want to match your top to bring your outfit together (far apart pieces matching makes colors seem to make more sense), but perhaps sometimes leave that for the long & lean girls. Still, mix thing up with accessories! (And the bag is totally separate of this, naturally.)

Sometimes, as with dress trousers, you would want to do this anyway for a polished appearance, but it especially helps for shorter bottoms with leg showing. At other times, you may be able to just go for funky & piece things up!

It’s all your call, but this is one technique if you really want the effect.

Poll: Crocs! Mon, 10 Jul 2006 17:35:48 +0000 Designer Ella General Shoes Walk of Shame Blogging about Crocs is so hot right now, and it’s all about debating.

Are they all ugly? Are clogs better or worse than thongs (or mandals)? Is the comfort worth it?

Vote in our poll: underneath the Glam ad on the left-hand sidebar!

Footnote: “Clogs are rad and/or awesome” is a quote from Blurbomat (reading that entry may help in your vote).

Poll Results: Fashion Rules Mon, 10 Jul 2006 17:30:45 +0000 Designer Ella General Fashion The Rules Poll Results Fashion RulesDo you believe in Fashion Rules? That was our most recent poll.

All along, “yes” was ahead, and in the end it just squeaked by the Nos: 38% to 36% and only one person off. 12% were undecided or felt somewhere in the middle, and I actually feel for that group; there is no black and white.

What I feel like these results mean is that this blog can happily continue what it does; which is sometimes “help” people with fit & flatter tips. Thanks for the support. ;-)
