Circle-Wrapped Straw-Heel Pumps

June 16, 2006 at 1:15 pm by Designer Ella

Donald Pliner Sportique ecru suede straw-heel 'Norma' pumps

Straw, straw, straw. Yes, I give in to the seasonal craze. I love it when used differently (as well as the usual ways). On this pump by Donald Pliner Sportique, the straw is wrapped around the heel in strips. The next best detail is the tooled leather trim on the side of the heel, creating a ladylike silhouette for this round-toe pump.

This kid suede shoe has a 2 ¾ heel height and sells on Bluefly for $81. Most sizes remain.

Flatter Yourself with bebe Belts

June 1, 2006 at 6:30 pm by Designer Ella

Cinching waists for feminine beauty is not only flattering, it’s the chicest way to accessorize this season.

Bebe is all about belts worn at the natural waist, right now. They adorn the models with fabulous belts over their tops, but for a slightly more traditional/wearable look, don these belts around a short-sleeved blazer or trench coat.

bebe belts

And bebe is the one stop belt shop at the moment for fancy, sophisticated styles. Check out this Bow Belt and this Ruched Leather Belt, with genuine leather gathered on an elastic band. It can be worn with its buckle (not pictured) to the back, front, or even askew.

If you’re not yet in fit form, these belts will even help you appear as so. These belts from bebe are $54 for the “bow” belt and $39 for the ruched.

Shorts Suits Bring Business to Summer

May 30, 2006 at 3:00 pm by Designer Ella

A trend for the summer, as reported by What Not to Wear’s Stacy London, is the shorts suit (or the cropped suit). It’s good for casual business and is perfect for the weather. But remember your company’s dress code and remember the temperature air conditioners leave your office. Shorts are hot hot right now, and cropped- or short-sleeved blazers pass through different temps while flattering, so these pieces are also great as mixable separates.

Friday Cute, Cute Shoe Fest!

May 19, 2006 at 6:00 pm by Designer Ella

I got my Delia’s catalogue in the mail (leftover from my teenage years, it can now be used for blogging!) and I only looked at the cover—it was enough to give me a post topic!

These cute cute peep-toe “Buckle” Flats .. I love that I keep finding more of this style, and I hope you do, too! I imagine it’s much-appreciated for those in search. I was for a while, myself. This pair is the inexpensive option at $29.

But you can fill up a whole basket enough to get free shipping and a Shoe-Spring wardrobe. How’s that for shoe-string budget?

I found all these ADORABLE cute cute cute flats at Delias.com. What a way to kick in the weekend!

Celebrity Trend: Black & White Sophistication

May 18, 2006 at 9:00 am by Designer Ella

Black and white is a great combo right now, pair it with prim details and sophisticated aura, and we have something black-& white hot.

Lindsay Lohan fashion

Here is Lindsay Lohan in two somethings a little different for her. She usually carries mod straight edges and edgy sexuality well, but here she is all feminine flow, and all class.

Designer Ella’s Top Color Combos For SS06

May 13, 2006 at 10:30 am by Designer Ella

Forget what some Norwegian fashion website says, I think the colours for Spring and Summer are light and airy. Here are the colours that are covering me and/or that I’m coveting, lately.

White House Black Market Crochet Cardigan

  • Teal / Black (the black makes the teal shine)
  • Teal / Tan (I just love teal with anything)
  • White / Tan (simple but boldly trend)
  • White / Black (sophisticated & classy, subdued yet bold)
  • White / Off-white (this can look romantic and luxe)
  • White / More white (I also love white in any lace, or any lace without white! [or crochet … or knit …])

If you’re feeling what I’m feeling, then you may like to check out this Aries Crochet Cardigan from White House Black Market.

What’s with all the Sheer?!

May 9, 2006 at 4:00 pm by Designer Ella
Nordstrom - Fire Button Front Top
See, this top is lovely. So me right now, but sheer.

I wear a lot of tank tops underneath my v-neck shirts, and my most versatile colored ones are getting old. I went shopping trying to find supplemental tops, and everything’s sheer. Listen, I need to cover myself. Even when layering three on, my little “bumps” are seen. If I wanted sheer, I’d work hard 3 hours, five days a week on getting a six-pack. And if I wanted my flaws poking through fabric, I’d wear silk (hate that silk).

Is this a Spring trend? (I rather hope not, but I also would hate it to last.) Have I missed reading about this? I know my reading material has been less fashion and more journalism / creative writing / sociology. (I know, what a waste!)

So; what the sheer?!

Fendi Patent Leather Mary Jane Flats

May 6, 2006 at 4:00 pm by Mallory Road

Fendi Patent Leather Flats
If you’ve visited Pursed Lips lately, you’ll remember I recently posted about the Elliott Lucca Jamin line made from patent leather—Ella commented about remembering patent Mary Janes which can be updated for adults. Well, I happened to stumble upon this pair by Fendi and had to post about them; they have peep-toe styling and an elasticized strap—I think they’re very well suited for adults!

They also have a beautiful pair of patent leather buckle slides!

Laundry by Shelli Segal Short-Sleeved Jacket

May 5, 2006 at 12:00 pm by Mallory Road

Metallic Linen Jacket
I’m guest posting again, away from my usual spot over at Pursed Lips, and today I found a jacket that is almost limitless in what you can wear it with, and if I’m spending $225 on a piece of clothing, I want to be able to wear it a lot. There’s been an abundance of short-sleeve jackets this spring, which I love because I think a great jacket can pull an entire outfit together, plus so many of the short-sleeve ones are really cute!

This particular Metallic Linen Jacket by Shelli Segal is made from metallic-coated linen, has a button-and-loop closure, notched collar and slightly puffed sleeves. Plus, it’s not as cropped as so many jackets have been this spring, which means it won’t be so trendy and you’ll be able to wear it longer.
