Eye Can’t Decide: Flattering?

July 14, 2008 at 5:45 pm by Designer Ella

This double-color cardigan by Marc by Marc Jacobs is pretty cute, but my eye can’t decide whether or not this halvsie effect is slimming or widening, and I don’t believe there’s been a set rule on this matter either.

What do you think?

Let Me Introduce Hilary Clinton to Clinton Kelly!

June 6, 2008 at 10:34 pm by Designer Ella

You know the problem well, you can’t block it from your mind. The low-long-hemmed unbuttoned jacket swinging away from the widest point of ample thighs/hips… Hilary Clinton and her “pantsuits” (more on that ridiculousness later)…

But it never happened, she never got a lifelong-style makeover from the gurus at What Not to Wear. What a picture, the secret footage, exactly like what I described above, the Clinton puns (there must be puns, I say) and… the bra fitting.

And now it’s over. Not only might Hilary’s political career be over, but she now has no hope of dressing her womanly body as it should. First legitimate female candidate for president of the United States?? Come on, she’s not that female. (Her lack of humanity she increasingly displayed not withstanding, itself.)

What NOT to Wear: Old-Lady Pants Suits

What TO Wear: A nice pin-striped menswear suit. Hem cut at the actual hips (think where a baby rests against a woman’s side, on occasion).

;-)

Clinton - forget flag pins, try on the stripes!

Metallic Burberry Trench Coat

October 17, 2007 at 10:20 pm by Designer Ella

Burberry Metallic Check Jacquard Trench CoatWherever you live, the trench coat is so seasonal, now or soon. If you want the best in style and class, Burberry’s a no-brainer. I love their subtler Metallic Trench Coat with black on metallic black jacquard check. Something this chic doesn’t come cheap, though, at $995.

There’s some serious worse news though, because it seems all of the rich northern hemisphere has spoken on this coat. I say if you’ve got some credit, and are the lone size 10, you must make this your fall season charge.

There’s more cuteness for Autumn from Burberry, too. If the British range is out of yours, don’t worry, practically any trench is flattering, just don’t squeeze or swim in a wrong size.

Vera Wang?

September 11, 2007 at 12:58 pm by Designer Ella

Vera Wang collage SS 08

What happened to Vera Wang’s skills as a top wedding gown designer? Her entire collection for Spring/Summer 2008 is a bunch of *Sad Sacks*! :-( It’s like “burlap chic” with better fabrics but equally bad colours, oh and sans chic. *Snort* Puh-leaze! Next!

The Maxi Dress is Back, and yes, That IS What It Means

April 12, 2007 at 3:00 am by Designer Ella

The maxi dress, opposite of a mini dress, yes with a floor-skimming skirt length … is now trendy. Who’s with me that we just don’t get this? Just last year, this length was the devil, am I wrong? Fashion is so weird. Well, no matter what the current celebrity consensus, I will not be buying into this look - I just don’t like it.

If you do, here are some shopping options:

The Maxi Dress

$$$ Version:
Nieves Lavi Bow-Front Dress
$350 Neiman Marcus

$$ Version:
INC International Concepts Printed Color-Block Maxi Dress
$129 Macy*s

$ Version:
Heritage 1981 Camille Dress
$28 Forever 21

Whatever price-point you find yourself in, remember to add to the overall cost in your mind, in case this trend fades quickly.

Manolo Blahnik does Clear Heels

April 10, 2007 at 10:06 pm by Designer Ella

Manolo Blahnik Lucite Sandal

Usually the designer to stick with the most sophisticated shapes and styles even in the face of what’s trendiest, Manolo Blahnik has now made shoes (shown here: his Lucite Sandal) with see-through plastic aspects.

I hate clear heels. But can Manolo Blahnik class them up? Or is this the designer sinking into sell-out-trendiness, while making bad shoes (although with probably better quality than others)?

Comment here or for other ways to voice your say, check out our current poll on clear shoes, on the top of the left sidebar!
