Vera Wang?

September 11, 2007 at 12:58 pm by Designer Ella

Vera Wang collage SS 08

What happened to Vera Wang’s skills as a top wedding gown designer? Her entire collection for Spring/Summer 2008 is a bunch of *Sad Sacks*! :-( It’s like “burlap chic” with better fabrics but equally bad colours, oh and sans chic. *Snort* Puh-leaze! Next!

L.A.M.B. Kicks of Fashion Week like a Lion

September 7, 2007 at 2:09 pm by Designer Ella

L.A.M.B. Spring 2008 preppyUm, since when does NY Fashion Week start on a Wednesday? My bad, I didn’t even know what today’s date was. I’m so out of it since I got out of school, but luckily now I have plenty of time for reporting the catwalk!

OK so I honestly didn’t GET why Gwen Stefani has been respected for fashion design - I didn’t see her as more than a celebresigner. That was until I saw her Spring 2008 collection for L.A.M.B.

Now since when is Gwen Stefani, miss Harijuku-ex No Doubt-Mrs. Rossdale - preppy? (Unfortunately I see Autumn as the preppy season, not Spring. But it’s my fave look, so I won’t complain too much.) Well, her collection was delightfully preppy-youth-hip and her models still looked sexy, funky and cool. Hats off! (Seriously, take that hat off!)

Now one may still see the clothes as still on the teen-music-scene side, but when you see the dresses, it’s all over—you give in. Gwen’s a good designer, and this collection is fantastic. I may even already have my favorite of high fashion Spring 2008. Oh Gwen, come over to H&M real quick, okay? ;-)

By the way, it wouldn’t do to tell you how those dresses rock with class, so here are a couple photos!

Silk Twilly - Hermès Graphic-Woven Scarf for August

July 30, 2007 at 10:49 pm by Designer Ella

Hermes scarfThe Fall season is pretty much upon us in the fashion hemisphere, and many of us - I know - can’t wait to get started on shopping and even wearing Autumn-toned goodies.

Now how to wear a gorgeously warm looking scarf in the dog days of August, a month that also celebrates the hot hot reds of the Earth?

An Hermès silk scarf in a sharp graphic print is perfect, and don’t get too scared, this Silk Twilly is only $115. That’s not bad for a die-hard fashionista or a moderately-budgeted H. admirer. The print is too fashionable and the price only tells you this accessory will last.

Betsey Johnson Wicker Flat

July 3, 2007 at 9:00 am by Designer Ella

Betsey Johnson Juniper wicker FlatHey, I love the wicker collection from Betsey Johnson. But I have excuse, for I am addicted to knitting, yarn etc. and the natural material on these shoes looks like crochet, but stands up with a sturdy feel. Hm, I’d probably prefer true crochet, but the shoes are great for summer, plus they’re original! Don’t you think the feminine detailing is so sweet? I don’t know how the shoes would feel on, but for designer shoes on sale for $104, I’d take any comfort I could get.

For sure though, copies of this would not be too cool. One can’t reproduce this cheaply and get away with it! (Unless it’s with yarn, of course!)

Pictured here is the flat, browse more or purchase at JildorShoes.com.

Your say …

Skechers’ Cali Shoes = Good Crocs Knockoffs?

June 19, 2007 at 4:24 pm by Designer Ella

Is a Crocs knockoff ever an improvement? First there’s the question: can a knockoff ever be better? Sure, I say, but this matter takes the issue further. We’re talking about fabulously ugly Crocs. Sure, differentiations have a good chance of looking better than those garden clogs, but how good can a similar style be?

Skechers Cali

Enter CALI by Skechers. They’re not all molded plastic, but some are, and the makers seem to be riding on the popular fugly footwear wave. The two shoes in this style (made of the plastic) I see on Skechers.com are pictured; the Shockwaves Sandal (very similar to one Crocs style) and the “Calies” .. er “Mary Jane inspired” shoe (sort of like a modern, more feminine signature Skechers’ style sneaker meets the boat shoe). These shoes offer cuter, slimmer shaping and the sandal has these buttons that can be placed in different spots on the thong strap.

Better sure, I think, but how much? What’s your vote?

To see the shoes in other materials, and view the whole collection, go to Skechers.com.

Oh, it’s only a $1.5 thou beach cover-up!

Pucci Dress

Well, it’s lurex and not really intended to be that, but just look at it - it’s got that jazzy, sunny feel. If I had the cash (I’m talkin’ mega-millions that keep comin’), sure. And for celebs, how fab an MTV-appearance frock?

It’s from Emilio Pucci (obv) and yes, that price tag is over the titular amount, at $1,535.

P.S. Net-a-Porter actually net-stocks this frock in their “evening dress” section. Hee hee.
