Heart Truth Event Fashion Show

February 6, 2006 at 9:30 am by Designer Ella

Kelly Rowland Heart Truth EventCelebrities and designers of all sorts worked together, this weekend, to showcase the need for awareness of heart disease with the Heart Truth fashion show.

The event was to spread the “truth” that heart disease is the number 1 killer of women in the US. Why the US? Heart Disease is often caused by being overweight, especially when there is extra bulging on the stomach. Women usually carry weight in hips and thighs, but extra stomach fat collects when a person stress-eats. It could be said that women love their chocolate and comfort foods to sooth their nerves, and we fabulistas live hectic lives, today. I just admitted to suffering from this habit, and given my family’s genes, my own tendency toward anxiety, and my hold of a little extra quelque chose, this is a concern in my life. I am successfully getting fit, though, and am young yet. (Heart Disease generally hits mid-life.) Many of you know the truth of how hard losing weight is, and I give back to you my understanding. Please, be healthy.

As for the fashion: the best “lady in red” was Kelly Rowland in her gown by House of Dereon, the label by former Destiny’s Child mate, Beyoncé Knowles paired with mom Tina Knowles. How lovely.

It was sexier, bolder, and more detailed. It showed the beauty of woman; that she deserves glamor.

I have a gripe, though, about the use of perfect celebrities, instead of women afflicted or in danger of getting this disease.

Still, it was attention-getting, and it’s wonderful for these high-profile, glamorous people to work together for a cause–for all of us.

Thank Steve Carell’s Wife

January 17, 2006 at 11:23 am by Designer Ella

Yesterday, we received almost twice as many visitors to the site than ever before. It was the very first time a site of mine had ever broken 1,000 visitors in a day, at over 1,050!

Steve Carell and Wife Nancy

I want to thank Steve Carell’s wife!

Of course, much of the credit goes to Manolo and his Carnivale of Couture.

But mostly, I thank Steve Carell’s lovely wife, Nancy Walls.

Stars Show Upcoming Trends at Golden Globes

January 17, 2006 at 11:13 am by Designer Ella

Some stars showed off Spring 2006 trends in this January’s Golden Globe Awards.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Babydoll Dress

Gwyneth Paltrow (the momma with a beautiful name, giving crazy ones to her own babies) in a babydoll dress by Balenciaga. Unfortunately, the dress had too much of a Victorian flair, while also a trend, Gwyny looked a bit like she was back in Emma.

Star Style Resolution

January 14, 2006 at 5:43 pm by Designer Ella

The celebrities can’t quite seem to make the simple resolution to act classy and be a proper person. As for their appearances, I see in them that they can do better than flash and trash, but the ol’ publicity trick always wins over. Ladies and fellows, that is not acceptable. Greed leads to bad karma, and karma is in! and anyone can do it, perhaps even the stars.

Whether these pictures are new or old, random or hinting at true change, here are some iffy stars looking their darn best. I want to encourage them to keep it up for the new year. I also have predictions!

Jessica Simpson Boots

January 9, 2006 at 12:43 pm by Designer Ella

Jessica Simpson - Women's JessicaJessica Simpson has debuted a “line” of western-style fashion boots, and I actually think the “Jessica” style is rather nice. When I compare it to similar boots, it beats out, feet down. For cowboy boots, they are attractive. There is also the “Daisy.” Both have fairly nice details and shaping, clearly designed by a professional. I’m curious to see if “Ms. Simpson” puts out any other styles. This does not mean I’ve made nice with the pop singer, oh, no. She needs to be very careful with her appearance and work around this fashion blogger.

Celebs Leading the Blind

December 30, 2005 at 10:30 am by J*B*

Ella is doing a great job of posting, but surprise! she is on vacation. We have discovered Word Press’s Future Date Set! She is also getting online as much as she can. But to mix things up and keep things interesting, here is a guest blog post by Pet-Pet blogger, J*B*.

You know what I have noticed lately about fashion trends? No matter how unattractive the trend happens to be, society’s normalities, like you and I, will be subjected to the trend’s horror and udder lack of taste if the said trend is seen on a wealthy socialite celebrity.

Jessica Simpson and Mary-Kate Olson in Bad FashionNow, you do not have to agree with me as I may be entirely wrong, but here is my theory: High profile celebs agree to wear styles by certain designers. In return, the celebrities receive payment and/or kickbacks for their “brand loyalty.” This way, when the public (namely impressionable teens) sees their favorite heiresses wear new styles, they are thirsty to get their hands on the brand-new trend. So, despite how tasteless the style may be, the kids love it. Hey, if Paris is wearing it, it must be “hot.” ( … because Paris is so elegant, right? Note heavy use of sarcasm.)

But I suppose that is always how fashion trends begin, right? Someone influential wears something hip or different, and we simply jump on the million-dollar, pink diamond-studded wagon. And that’s human nature, I imagine. But the thing that really bothers me is that these styles of late have been really friggin’ tacky.

Cases in point:

Nicole Richie Sunglasses* Trucker hats. What? How? Huh? When did trucking fashion become tailored to the fashionably chic? These hats are not chic. They are stupid. They are ugly. They are now in my trashcan. Celebrity to blame: Ashton Kutcher.

* Ugg Boots. People, take your blinders off. The name of the boots says it all—Ugg-ly. Celebrity to blame: Nicole “why is she famous, anyway?” Ritchie.

* Big, fat Sunglasses. Please, will this trend just go away. Why is looking like a fly a good thing? I just don’t get it. I really don’t. Celebrity to blame: One of the Olson twins… I don’t know the difference.
