Some Like it Haute

February 22, 2006 at 7:43 pm by Designer Ella

Some like it steamy, some like it romantic, and some just like it haute.

This is the review of two different products of media. Actually it’s two very different reviews, and please hang with me for both.

Some Like it Haute

To preview, a summary of Some Like It Haute, the novel by Julie Dam.

Alex is the type of girl who manages to make it through everything out of luck, maybe some talent, but little else. She is surrounded by the finest things in life, without appreciation for the little things. And we hate her … yet we still want to be in her place, in her shoes.

And a summary of Some Like it Haute, the blog by Alex Simons.

We also still hate [Alex], with brand new every day pictures of Prada and other designer shoes. [But] we love [the blogger] for knowing so well the insight to our souls. Finally! Another person who gets it—and she explains it so well. It’s very well written…

Shoe Calendar! 2006

December 4, 2005 at 4:24 pm by Designer Ella

High Heel Divas 2006 CalendarHigh Heel Divas is artist, Deelite’s shoe calendar for 2006. A self-taught photographer and graphic designer, Deelite is also a man who loves shoes (on his lovely wife’s feet, of course). This calendar appeals to every shoe woman (which is every woman, right?), and even the male shoe fetishists (especially with a couple of shots of stripper heels; truly varied work). The calendar features mostly designer high heels adorning women’s shockingly nice looking feet.

I would definitely support this man, for he supports his wife’s shoe habit, wholeheartedly. And I’ve got to support a shoe habit, myself. This might just be my calendar for 2006! We all need a calendar for Christmas, and what better one for the shoe hounds and fashionistas? Add this to your Christmas or shopping list, STAT, if you’ve left out the perfect calendar!

The Book with Heart and Sole

May 23, 2005 at 4:04 pm by Designer Ella

I have some time to do personal reading, now that it’s summer, and I finally have in my hands a book that I’ve wanted to read for a while now. It’s Heart and Sole : The Shoes of My Life, and I’ll share my review with you.

Book by Jane Eldershaw : Heart and Sole : The Shoes of My LifeThis book is a must-read for any shoe enthusiast. I didn’t even have to sit down and immerse myself, before I knew I loved it; simply paging through got me excited to read it. After reading the first two paragraphs, Heart and Sole was locked in as a true favorite.

“The Shoes of My Life” is more than a memoir for the shoe lover. It’s filled with adorable, humorous illustrations, shoe-loving quotes and wording to make the true shoe-aholic swoon over “just how true!” what the author says is. I’ve never felt so justified in my obsession, but now I don’t feel shame, I even feel virtuous for my addiction. Were you worried that your predilection might say you’re shallow or materialistic? (What? Did I say that?) Well, NO!

There’s a direct correlation: The more shoes a woman owns, the nicer person she turns out to be. The more she obsesses about footwear, the more normal she becomes.

It’s true.

Manolo Blahnik Drawings

April 13, 2005 at 12:13 am by Designer Ella

I’ve decided to dedicate myself to studying The Man. The Manolo. The Blahnik.

Manolo Blahnik of the Week: His book of drawings.

Manolo Blahnik Drawings

Much less expensive than any true work of shoe art, yet this book is full of 134 whimsical illustrations of Blahnik’s creations from the 1970’s to the 21st century. Some of these drawings are in some ways even more fabulous than the shoes themselves. You just have to see.

The book also includes Manolo quotes by fashion minded celebrities.

“Manolo Blahník’s shoes are as good as sex…and they last longer. “-Madonna.

True wisdom.

Best of all, you own a little Manolo.
