Posh’s ‘Do Buzz tops Dresses PLUS a Real Scandal!

Like a good story, but unlike journalistic-style, you must read ’til the end for the “climax” of “drama”.

Her very name-of-fame is literally defined as, “elegant and fashionable”, but Posh (Spice), or Victoria Beckham, gathered more media buzz attending events^ with her new* pixie cut hairstyle than her own debut high fashion collection - both of which went public the same day; Sept. 8th^.

*I do wonder what the daze is about, since the pop star is easily remembered as always sportin’ a similar coif in the 1990s with the Spice Girls. I’m also amazed at all the polls passing through the blogosphere questioning the style, for IMHO Vic is one of the few grown women who can pull off a lack of mane without looking boyish - maybe it’s because she truly does always dress so posh.

Perhaps there should be more stories about the first showing of her very own signature collection:

Sample…

Beckham is one of the few singers or any celebrities who actually have credibility to his or her fashion design aspirations … there was always potential behind her aesthetics, glam-affinity, and seemingly Coco-inspired simplicity. Victoria, despite her girl band history, would never have put out tacky trends, for she has no white trash in her wardrobe, if albeit a bit of the over-flash of celebutante. But that, in moderation, flies in high fashion. (No one could dis a fabulista for her pink ostrich Birkin, even with a matchy-matchy dress.) And now that we see a first sampling of her own-named creations; potential is proved for shape-fitting, flattering-wearability, and even flair of all appropriate measures.

Besides, I believe this woman started out dreaming of fashion design, and fell into singing and pop-stardom. I can understand this. It’s my opinion that we should honor someone’s true dream and try to respect and see their talent - or have patience while it develops deeper.

“I have spent a lifetime wanting to do this. It’s what I always dreamed of since I customized my school uniform when I was 7 years old.” - Victoria Beckham on creating this collection.

That sounds a lot like yours truly, had I gotten into a successful music career (and I had my time attempting that dream) - and now I find myself still on a journey to my *place*.

Usually when I read that a poptart is putting out a collection inspired by her own wardrobe, I fear it will just be copies of other brands, like the discount stores we love for their prices of runway inspirations. But that is not what we want out of someone clamoring for this career and putting his or her own name up front.

Yet seeing Victoria’s collection, it is exactly fitting with her own attire. When someone dresses so finely as Vickie, it’s actually refreshing to see a woman make what she likes - and exciting to see the evidence of her own product on her body - below, compared with the catwalk.

However while her small line entirely of frocks is certainly stylish and classy, about half is purely dull. So where’s the story or sensation when most prejudge against celebrities’ fashion design, even in a rare case when one deserves a chance? It was sadly overlooked by many, and is unfortunately too “mundane” to make splashy front-page gossip.

I do see another story, such a juicy scandal, here in Beckham’s appearance, actually, and in it I do find more spectacle. Take a look at this photo of Victoria’s bare back with a tattoo decorating a jutting-out backbone:

Does Vic think accentuating her negative total body fat is 'Posh'?

Does Vic think accentuating her negative total body fat is 'Posh'?

Aneccessoria? Anorexories? Victoria Beckham is excessively too skinny, and although it’s a problem for our society - how can one be surprised no one notices amongst the runway models takeover of Manhatten and the media?

Our eyes need a makeover - ok? - so let’s focus on health and not new hairstyles. - Not to mention a designer’s art over gossip-fodder.

Notes and Sources:

  • Victoria Beckham (a spokesmodel for Louis Vuitton this year) attended the Marc Jacobs Collection’s show on the night of Sept. 8th^ with her new haircut, and the buzz began there, as The Cut blog (ironically) correspondents reacted with shock to … the cut … signaling its own surprise intro. (Later, photos of a front-row Posh next to J.Lo went blog-side-wide.)
  • Meanwhile Style.com cites their photos from Beckham’s own showing - obviously in a photo studio, not runway - as Sept. 8th, also, but photos were cited “courtesy of” Victoria Beckham, which might signal a non-actual-event, in this case. (& For the record, Style.com publishes a day late, and a stock-$ short, so this could explain knowledge of the hair spreading before photos of the clothes.)
  • Beckham was only recently confirmed to show at Fashion Week, after previously backing out before changing her mind again (source), so it seems she didn’t make official schedule lists. Furthermore, instead of a true show, she held (at least two) private buyer/editor gatherings, with WWD reporting theirs being even earlier, on the 5th. Although the mag published quickly online, the article only depicted two piddly photos of the dresses.
  • Media photos are from WireImage.com and Chris Moore / Karl Prouse. Fashion photos are courtesy of VIctoria Beckham’s brand.
  • Updated to add info and quote about VIctoria’s (and my) dream.

Posh loves fashion, but I sort of feel like she wishes could could be a model. Celebresenting for Louis Vuitton isn’t quite the same thing. She feels the need to be skinny AND hide the fact that she’s under the bare minimum requirement of 5′7″, which probably makes her think she needs to appear even skinnier.

It’s very sad to go from “girl power” to “girls, go hungry”. Her clothes are beautiful, and could make beautiful, but she isn’t promoting inner beauty and health, no.

Victoria’s in actuality a little more “glam” than “posh” if you inspect the differences. She cares too little about girl power, and too much about Birkin powerful.

I wonder what the hair length does for a lean look, too?

Dazzlefawn Says:

Hi

Sorry for stealing that image, and thnx 4 the tips!

Designer Ella Says:

StyleSpice, you’re right, and being a Spice Girl was sort of like being a model. Half of their appeal was the funky fashion infused with their personalities. Posh’s “personality” was just fashion.

Maybe she idolizes models because they’re a part of the industry. She even was only another type of public figure for a while as a “footballer’s” wife, which may unhealthily tie in.

But she really does love the fashion. And I don’t think she intends to forsake the empowerment of women. Unfortunately I think she’s one of the too-common victims of low self-esteem, not vice versa. What do you think?

At the very least she’s not trying to dress women as skanks, MySpace-genners, etc. Who knows what growth we’ll see from her. She’s barely just begun!

Designer Ella Says:

DazzleFawn, thanks for being gracious and coming back to write!

Now I know it’s not futile and even can pay off to just write someone to request/inform - when it’s a real webmaster/newbie - and that’s not an insult. Webmasters are noobs for sooo long, you wouldn’t believe it. I was still a sort of newb for a while into even PRO blogging, ha ha.

(Like until one knows all about the Google Sandbox, one’s green.)

Zara Says:

You know, NOT to seem rude and skip YOUR points, but forget the hair - somehow I never noticed that brown eyes really pop with loads of dark grey shadow.

Who knew?

Perhaps I need to try this.

Designer Ella Says:

Interesting Zara, I feel a future post inspiration…

No, I know you’re not being rude, by the way. Commenters should be able to point new things out. And it’s great to get the conversation going beyond the hair. Bleh! Haha. :-)

kpriss Says:

It must be one of the few positive articles I’ve read about Posh in awhile now. And not just that - I really had the patience to read it all! And the comments! Getting back to the article’s subject - I wonder what took her so long before making her own collection! then again - I wonder why she did it anyway.. It’s indeed dull and it will only sell (if ever) because of her name. The haircut? not bad. Courageous.

Now I have to ask you on a more personal note - what’s the Google Sandbox? :D (thanks for your help!)

Designer Ella Says:

Google “puts” new domains into their “sandbox”, which is actually a common term used in other places to mean some hidden place.

Like there are (I think literally though) sandboxes in second life to create/build large objects, I believe people go there for seclusion in designing?

Anyway, this was implemented after 2004 - so KMS never was in jeopardy. The first few months or longer of owning a domain/site are crucial to build links JUST SO - not too many, even! - or the domain is deemed “untrustworthy” and is dumped from Google results.

One horrible way this happens SO easily is moving a website, say from non-hosted or sub-domain to hosted or own domain - and not doing it properly. (Duplicate content, losing links, lots contribute.) You have to do a technical thing called a 301 direct, which is “permanent” and then you can even KEEP your Google Page Rank (although wait a little bit for the results to completely return, and of course, you still lose links for at least a while).

It’s devastating. You seem to be OK with your site (although I don’t know its age.) Be careful when buying new domains, also, that they aren’t old banned ones!! On the converse of that, if you can find a relevant domain that had a good standing/PR, that can help.

A friend, and fellow purse blogger, got in it by getting Dugg and the influx of links “seemed” suspicious. Apparently it’s easier to get out of when TOO many love you and not too few though, lol. I waited so long with my handbag blog, once http://www.pursedlips.net - until finally doing this odd double move that took a long time…..

I re-sub-directories it in my OLDEST domain, and that worked. Recently I 301/permanently redirected it to its new name’s new domain: http://bagdreamblog.com and all seems OK - now I just need my linkers to get over my bothersomeness and re-link me - sigh. :-)

You should read more if you’re going to do more websites, there’s one article I liked the most, but the site seems completely gone, which is odd! Hmmm. :-(

Anyway, we can’t discuss this too much more on this page if we want the comments to continue. ;-)

kpriss Says:

Whoa! Thank you so much, I really appreciate you took the time to explain all that! :*
I even got to look on your bagdreamblog and it looks pretty bag-oholic ;)! Anyway, I hope allthingsgoogle remain in good relations with our blogs and thanks again! Will be checking from time to time!

Designer Ella Says:

It’s no problem; I get really passionate about the subject. :-)

Good luck, see you around!

Designer Shoes Lover Says:

Thank you for posting and explaining this issue. I’ve been looking for articles about it and I’m glad I found yours. I hope to see more posts from you. Cheers!

jenny Says:

The hair is hot, and she is one of the best dressed women ive ever seen, mostly everything she wears is sold at bleu clothing, thats why i shop there!!

heney Says:

Definitely have to agree, but hey sometimes a girl has to sacrifice that sacred dressed for a less pricey version!
