The Stylosphere’s Own Salon de Maria (Palma)

July 2, 2007 by Designer Ella

Salon de Maria amber bracelet

Maria Palma is a dear Internet friend of mine, and you know her well from blogging at The Runway Scoop. And if that’s true you probably are familiar with her own designed jewelry, or at least remember a mention here and there. Salon de Maria is the blogger’s other job, with fine hand-made jewelry and even home-designed greeting cards. Pictured above is one of her creations.

You can browse and luckily buy from her shop on Etsy, and while you’re there, you may find yourself lost in the other independent jewelers and gosh - just anything that can be made with two hands! Fun. Thanks to indie jewelry designers, or any apparel and accessory makers working from their own homes, the public (you!) can look more attractive and stay unique!

And of course, keep reading Maria’s thoughts on the workings of haute couture at www.therunwayscoop.com!

One last note, this designer jewelry offers EXTREME bargains! I ordered one piece, so trust me on this! Order order order before that silly girl realizes she should raise her prices considerably! Your gain is well … her sale at least!

Thank you for the site. I will check it out. I love to buy jewerly that people make themselves because it is so unique. That and you don’t run into someone else that has the exact same piece.

You’re welcome. And you can find a variety of styles in this particular shop. (And anything and everything in the whole ETSY site.)

Great article!

Hi Elle!

Thank you for the kind mention! I actually try to keep my prices reasonable because I believe that beautiful jewelry should be accessible to every fashionista! Besides, I get bargain prices on my stones and like to pass on the savings to my customers ;)

Mm I know and some of the great Etsy prices have ruined some of the indie designers I’ve bought from before. Eek. So that’s a worry.

I wouldn’t charge $200 on pieces, and yes, we do see that on Etsy, too.

I am aiming to keep my prices fair to me, yet on par with others. But I work slowly (that’s just how I am except for writing English papers), and therefore make a lower profit than I perhaps could. Jewelry isn’t slow like knitting (unless I knit the jewelry), but there are a lot of steps when I create beads out of yarn. They’re unique, but still .. I can use TINY amounts of scrap yarn, so that’s not costly. Then again I only use sterling silver wire. (Thinking of allergies.) I also find prices aren’t so great on my supplies, since I keep expecting my orders to be larger, hmm that’s my problem with math. Grr. (I order online.)

Argh I haven’t crafted anything in days, I feel horrible! Well yes I HAVE sketched and designed on the computer… Lately it doesn’t feel the same to be on the computer so much, I love this new *working with real materials with my hands* thing. He he.

I have to finish some projects that were supposed to be done already. Sigh. Tomorrow!

Okay sorry for any yammering, it’s late and I’m TIRED!

Thanks for your comment. :-)
