Ella Made Weekly Item: Knit Coin Purselet!

July 21, 2007 by Designer Ella

Ella’s own Coin Purselet

I’ve been putting off debuting my shop and my own items, thinking, “I’m not ready!” and “I want the optimal day/time/exposure!” Oh bah. Stop procrastinating. My readers need to see this! I’m going to feature one of my items every week, so as not to over do it. ;-)

My designer company name is Milly & Nans, and I stress everything yarn, knitting and crochet accessories. I have lots of jewelry made and eventually will have lots of great purses.

What you see here is a large coin purse, knitted, with a zipper and a bracelet wrist strap and decorative button. It features a gathered design and is fully lined. It measures 4.5″ x 3″. Price: $14. Buy here on Etsy! Craving another colour? “Convo” me through Etsy!

This was the first purse I’ve ever made, but I have more in the works for Fall.

*Update* What I meant was it’s the first purse I ever designed and made. It’s still the only style of which I’ve brought to life, but I’m working on another and more are waiting to be made!*

My shop address is www.millyandnans.etsy.com and the blog is at www.millyandnans.com! (The ad to the left is moi, easily clickable anytime!)

Yes, congratulations to me, I’m starting my dream! And I’m really enjoying it. :-D

Maddy Says:

thats hideous

Emily Says:

I agree with Maddy, I’m not a fan either, sorry

Designer Ella Says:

Thanks for your comments.

If you don’t like it, would a solid colour look better? Just wondering if it’s the colours.

Eh, that’s OK. Could be the photography too, but I can’t expect everyone to like everything I do.

I can understand liking perhaps the finer things, others like nice people. I make indie-style crafts, you …. aren’t nice, Maddy.

:-D Ha ha.

But it’s fine, I want to keep my blog mostly separate, so if people don’t like my own fashions, I welcome you to read the blog. And showing distaste for items is a part of comments. Still I would expect more tact and respect for one’s love and hard work.

Many of you agree with that, and so I am enjoying sharing with you.

At least this is not a personal blog with people telling me my personality is hideous.

Some people are just rude like that, I swear.

Anyway, ttyl!

By the way, the middle Tanner sister is ringing through my head. Anyone remember her/Full House? He he!

No blog link from the nasty commenter then? Isn’t that always the way.

dmollison Says:

I think it’s very cute!

creativedesignz Says:

wow maddy id be interested to see if you could do better- i know i couldnt if given needles and some yarn. “if you have nothing nice to say, dont say it at all” comes to mind.

ella its really cute-not bad for your first go. i like it. id love to see it in just blue and purple. keep having fun.

please come see my shop and let me know what you think: http://www.creativedesignz.etsy.com

I think that nasty poster (who can’t spell “that’s”) needs to relearn his/her manners.

I think the purselet is fantastic! The colors are cheery and spring like.

Ree ( JewelRee Says:

Its very cute! I might just heart it myself on Etsy! :)

If someone doesn’t like it…pfft, they have no style neways! :P

quirkeyish Says:

I don’t think it is hideous, but it doesn’t appeal to me* and I am turned off (as a buyer) to your “it’s the first one i’ve ever made” proclamation. I’d rather hear that you’ve made several and finally perfected your technique and hear that you are 110% confident that they will be durable. As a designer, I would make several and test them out to make sure they are going to hold things properly over a period of time, before I feel confident to offer them for sale. Give some to friends or relatives to try out and check back with their expereinces. Does that make sense?

*the colors don’t appeal to me (that particular variegation) and the chain zipper pull looks off somehow. But that is just my opinion. The bigger issues are your “virgin bag” statement and obvious lack of testing.

Renee Says:

I agree that you cannot please everyone, and you took her nasty comment very well. For future reference Maddy, there is a tactful way to tell someone you don’t care for their work. Your comment was just plain rude.

Ella, your coin purse is very lovely.

Aja Says:

quirkeyish, Hate to break it to ya but everyone’s gotta start somewhere. What’s wrong with it being the first? She’s obviously open to constructive criticism about it, how to improve, what colors to use, any helpful suggestions - isn’t that all part of the learning process? Part of growing?

I love how people are just so high and mighty. Theirs is the only truth. Geez. Give a chick a break.

And Maddy, way to be constructive. How’s this - you’re an asshat.

Shell Mitchell Says:

super cute coinpurse! knitting is hard!

Sharon Says:

I would have to agree that it is fine not to like something but there is a tactful way to say that. No need to be rude about it. Like the above poster doesn’t care for it but they also state why and what they feel might make it a better product in the future. Now that is a great way to respond.

Julie Says:

Wow Maddy - take some etiquette classes or something! You know the old rule - if you can’t say something nice, keep your big mouth shut. I happen to like it Ella. For your first purse I think it came out very well. Glad to see that nasty people don’t get to you. Keep on smiling!

Designer Ella Says:

Thanks everyone. Well, it sold! To Ree. So it all worked out.

I will relist it soon, but I want to make another and see if I can improve my creation time.

Good points, Quirk. Very good points. And the one in the photo IS the first purse I’d made. But I made other things, too. And the one in the photo is not the one I’m “selling” and sending to the buyer.

But I’d kept the one in my photo and it’s been through some testing. Mainly the point was that it’s the first design of mine I’d made. I should be more specific with wording, in the future.

Thanks all! I’ve got to go..

Designer Ella Says:

By the way, a few posts above mine had to be approved before going live and I didn’t see them before I posted my last comment.

Thanks, Aja! And everyone!
