Skechers’ Cali Shoes = Good Crocs Knockoffs?

June 19, 2007 by Designer Ella

Is a Crocs knockoff ever an improvement? First there’s the question: can a knockoff ever be better? Sure, I say, but this matter takes the issue further. We’re talking about fabulously ugly Crocs. Sure, differentiations have a good chance of looking better than those garden clogs, but how good can a similar style be?

Skechers Cali

Enter CALI by Skechers. They’re not all molded plastic, but some are, and the makers seem to be riding on the popular fugly footwear wave. The two shoes in this style (made of the plastic) I see on Skechers.com are pictured; the Shockwaves Sandal (very similar to one Crocs style) and the “Calies” .. er “Mary Jane inspired” shoe (sort of like a modern, more feminine signature Skechers’ style sneaker meets the boat shoe). These shoes offer cuter, slimmer shaping and the sandal has these buttons that can be placed in different spots on the thong strap.

Better sure, I think, but how much? What’s your vote?

To see the shoes in other materials, and view the whole collection, go to Skechers.com.

Sally Says:

In all honesty, as comfortable as Crocs are I think they are ugly too, so neither win, I don’t like them equally.

shomore Says:

Agggh, I’ve been officially brainwashed. I can actually see myself liking the Calies.

FashionHigh Says:

I don’t think Croc’s are particularly good-looking but boy are they comfortable! I, for one, am not a fan of knock-offs of the original..its sort of the same thing fake Uggs! Can anything really compare?

These sketchers remind me of the jelly shoes I wore as a kid! sigh…

Grace Says:

i can’t stand the crocs. they scare me. people wearing them scare me. what’s happening? they are ugly and anyone wearing them gets clownfeet. terrible terrible terrible things are what they are.

Dog Says:

These shoes look not very pretty… I saw the ads on some magazines… not attracting me to buy… Anyone tried or bought the shoes? I was wondering how comfort is it? I might get one for comfortable walking.

M Says:

I really hate those shoes… ugly doesn’t even begin

Crystal Says:

Let’s put aside the fact that these shoes are knockoffs and ugly as all get out. Can you tell me who in their right mind, wears shoes made out of PLASTIC? Nothing screams quality like plastic Skechers.

Designer Ella Says:

Hmm the sneaker style isn’t so ugly but they look like that siggie Sekchers style. I don’t know if the resin is as comfortable as Crocs, but I haven’t even felt Crocs as comfie! I should find these at the mall and try them. I will report if do.

Mitta Says:

I just saw a commercial for them. These are by far the ugliest things I’ve ever seen.

Barbara Says:

I disagree on the comment that these skechers are “the ugliest things[shoes] I’ve ever seen.” I’ve seen much worst…

I would never ever wear them, but if my friend wore them, I’m almost certain I wouldn’t make fun of them; However, if they wore crocs, I definitely, absolutely, one hundred percent would.

voteforstyle Says:

CROCS! Young children usually fall prey to this fashion disaster. Whats more gratifying than strapping plastic footwear to a childs feet? After all — a good recess teasing builds character!

Ha ha ha

Bill Says:

Personally, I love Crocs due to their Croslite material and how comfortable they feel on my feet. I own 2 pairs, and my wife and family all have at least 1 pair. No matter how much Skechers tries to imitate the look, they can’t replicate Crocs’ odor resistant, anti-microbial, and superb heel cup design.

I’ve tried on a pair of the Skechers and they started hurting after about 15 minutes. However, I chose to wear my Crocs for a family trip to Disneyland; it turned out to be a great idea because my feet were barely sore after 12 hours.

Designer Ella Says:

Thank you for your comment. How do you think the Crocs thong sandals might feel at Disney World?

Karen Says:

I LOVE my Crocs! Besides I won’t buy another pair of Skechers again since the last pair I bought bit the dust within 4 months! The sole split wide open and the inner sole caved in! Then they won’t give me my money back for a defective product!

Angela Says:

I hate crocs, they are the ugliest shoe since penny loafers. Bought I came across a pair of the skechers, and I looked twice. They are alot cuter than the crocs. I bought my daughter a pair and she loves them.
