State of the Fashion Union
February 14, 2006 at 5:38 pm by Designer EllaI’m finally actually straight writing on the topic of that recent carnival: the State of the Fashion Union. It’s too late to be included, and that’s just fine (because this is almost a bit anti-topic). I’m just thinking about it in finality terms from my own mind.
I don’t like talking politics, too much (nothing wrong with that) and I haaaaate business. (And hey, I own this blog network business, and I run it my own way.) So through these carnivals, I keep doing my own thing, and that is the right thing (for me) to do.
Now, finally, I’m struck with a thought. Don’t get too excited, it’s a small and vague thought. But there is no State of the Fashion Union. Well, there’s a state of something, but there’s no Fashion Union. Fashion is an art, it’s a flowing, living movement of speech. It’s been turned into a business, and a harsh one at that. But if we want to, we can ignore that and just enjoy the clothing, the style, and putting together our images. I regret, there is some form of Fashion Union, but in a way, it does not exist. That’s probably in the way that nothing exists, as say some scientists or wack-hack thinkers, but it is true (at least as much as it isn’t). Maybe I’m out of the circle with a loopy mind, like those conspiracy theorists and progressives. Hey, I’m the nerd chic! I’m really not one of them, and yet we’re all one of them; doing such a wonderful job of pushing fashion’s future and bringing out its best.
I wish we could let fashion exist on a lofty plane, and be free of impurities. But in reality that would lead to us all walking around in granny’s crocheted tracksuits, or something, and then there really would be no fashion. We have to live, love, and let be, I’m afraid. (I hate those people who simply argue, “that’s the way it is, so it has to be,” but there is truth in it.)
So, fashion’s state? Well, you know the answer. It’s the same as the state of modern civilization. It’s in dire danger, and yet will certainly outlive us all and our Earth.
