Tuleh Fabuleux!

February 6, 2006 at 4:18 pm by Designer Ella

Tuleh SuitTuleh’s show was quite the breath of fresh air in today’s urban fashion scene. It was also breathtaking from its glamour and refined beauty. The word was femininity and the setting was classic Parisian fashion trademarks. Fur was used appropriately, visual-wise, with gorgeous wraps. Even poof was used correctly, at the gathering ends of material on sleeves, et cetera. There was even a glorious use of feathers, bringing to mind much more couture than prêt-à-porter.

Tuleh was even practical. Oh, yes! Of course, even those necessity, let alone wearable, pieces are of fabulous design and ideal femininity. I’m talking coats and warm-up pieces, for which designer, Bryan Bradley, wins my prop for best designer winterwear of 2006/2007. There were even practical boot designs, but all of the shoes let the clothing shine, which is just fine with me in such a case as this.

Manolo Interruption

February 6, 2006 at 3:47 pm by Designer Ella

Manolo Blahnik Fretaba Leopard-Print PumpI interrupt your Fashion Week fantasies for our Monday Manolo. And this is nearly possibly the most perfect designer shoe of which to dream: a Manolo Blahnik Leopard Printed Hair-Calf Pump. Leopard is the ultimate in diva aspirations, and hair-calf is of what every luxe leopard shoe should be made. When a woman wears a shoe of this material in this print; she is noticed, and noticed for extravagance. It’s not tacky, it’s divine! Blahnik designed this vision perfectly, down to the slight toe-cleavage peep key-hole vamp. Can’t you envision the sensuality, feel the elation? The bow and modest heel make it my own fantasy; it’s just adorable. Is this another for displaying, though? I’d certainly love to take these out from time to time to play!

What do you think, what’s your dream?

von Furstenberg: Print over Signature Wrap

February 6, 2006 at 1:05 pm by Designer Ella

Diane von Furstenburg DressDiane von Furstenberg’s show was slightly less about the wrap dresses (that originally gave Diane a name) than it was about smart prints and professional suits. The soundtrack even portrayed the show’s theme; “Working Girl.” There were still dresses, many shirt dresses, but they were mostly overshadowed by feminine and fabulous jackets, and were best in simple colors with classic, feminine shapes or simply for the prevalent librarian meets Native-American-clothwork meets logger prints.

Sexy Scholastic wasn’t the only feeling of Fall for the show; many models wore mink-trimmed ankle boots. What should be luxury, and what could be warm and comfortable, sure, instead looks out of place and chunky—in soft mink!

Other shoes were mostly black and gold platform sandals, but I’m more excited to see the trend turn into platform heel and wedge boots, than continuing what we’re getting now for the warm weather; two, even three seasons ahead.

Overall the show was beautiful, with silhouettes that celebrate women. With the lighter focus on wrap dresses, Diane’s signature bold prints shine on their own, but as sophisticated mature in subtler colors and smaller shaped prints, that says success for her design ability and the collection.

Heart Truth Event Fashion Show

February 6, 2006 at 9:30 am by Designer Ella

Kelly Rowland Heart Truth EventCelebrities and designers of all sorts worked together, this weekend, to showcase the need for awareness of heart disease with the Heart Truth fashion show.

The event was to spread the “truth” that heart disease is the number 1 killer of women in the US. Why the US? Heart Disease is often caused by being overweight, especially when there is extra bulging on the stomach. Women usually carry weight in hips and thighs, but extra stomach fat collects when a person stress-eats. It could be said that women love their chocolate and comfort foods to sooth their nerves, and we fabulistas live hectic lives, today. I just admitted to suffering from this habit, and given my family’s genes, my own tendency toward anxiety, and my hold of a little extra quelque chose, this is a concern in my life. I am successfully getting fit, though, and am young yet. (Heart Disease generally hits mid-life.) Many of you know the truth of how hard losing weight is, and I give back to you my understanding. Please, be healthy.

As for the fashion: the best “lady in red” was Kelly Rowland in her gown by House of Dereon, the label by former Destiny’s Child mate, Beyoncé Knowles paired with mom Tina Knowles. How lovely.

It was sexier, bolder, and more detailed. It showed the beauty of woman; that she deserves glamor.

I have a gripe, though, about the use of perfect celebrities, instead of women afflicted or in danger of getting this disease.

Still, it was attention-getting, and it’s wonderful for these high-profile, glamorous people to work together for a cause–for all of us.
