Appropriate 4th of July Attire?

July 9, 2006 by Designer Ella

There were mess-ups with the Carnivale the last couple weeks, methinks. I was all set to post that Saturday, like I said in my post about Shoes.com’s sale. It turns out that Manolo traveled the same week … big holiday time!

The Carnivale for last week has been extended and it is about that 4th of July holiday. Shoesense writes,

What is the proper attire for 4th of July?

In other words, can you be festive without being tacky? What does a fashionable woman or man wear while overloading on hot dogs and fireworks?

Ella says ….

(wait for it)

BLACK!

Ella's Outfit: Black/Grey Lace Tank Tops
Black cami: Express (older),
Grey tank, Denim shorts: The Limited (new)
(I want to start displaying some of my outfits in this way. Like?)

Well, that is what I wore, it is what my Sister-of-BFF wore. Aren’t we just stinkers like that?

Like a commenter at Shoesense said, “I wore black to protest the war(s).” Well, I more wore black to show my disregard of the modern interpretation of patriotism. I’m sort of more a European or Canadian type, anyway. This country’s going downhill.

I also wore black to show my sophisticated fashion sense. No red/white/blue, no red/green (aside from Gucci striped bags) and no, no, never orange/black for me! I don’t like it at all.

I didn’t wear all black, no I wore a black camisole over a heather grey tank with snazzy lace and dark blue denim knee-length shorts. I just wanted to look nice and feel comfortable for a holiday.

My best friend’s sister wore all black, though. That’s like she is!

Ahhh varied personalities of extended familythis is what holidays are to me. Not independence, giving syphilis to natives, or displaced births of Christs.

For those of us who are proud of being Americans and are able to celebrate what is good about the country while still examining and attempting to solve its many problems…

I think it’s easy to show off your patriotism without looking tacky. I like the method of wearing all three colors, red white and blue, but changing one of them slightly: wear red, white, and aqua…white, blue, and pink…red, white, and cream.

Yes, that’s a good way, I used to do that. Also there’s wearing only two of the colors, or only one of them prominently.

You might just do this to be festive, even.
