Manolo Blahnik Early Design

Manolo Blahnik Early Graphic from Vogue 1971One of Manolo Blahnik’s earliest creations, as seen in Vogue in 1971. Photographed by Lester Bookbinder.

I found this—what appears to be a computer graphic, at least in the balloon leg—on Manolo Blahnik’s biography on Vogue.co.uk.

It’s immensely interesting; the chunky heel and different styling from what’s so Manolo, today. The thing is that this shoe pictured would be quite in today! We really are back to the seventies for our feet! But Blahnik isn’t going back to that design, and that’s admirable.

They should think of putting out a platform as a “limited edition” and number them or something….

Designer Ella Says:

Perhaps a platform, but I don’t think so. I know a chunky heel would go against the Manolo style.
