Heart Truth Event Fashion Show
February 6, 2006 by Designer Ella
Celebrities and designers of all sorts worked together, this weekend, to showcase the need for awareness of heart disease with the Heart Truth fashion show.
The event was to spread the “truth” that heart disease is the number 1 killer of women in the US. Why the US? Heart Disease is often caused by being overweight, especially when there is extra bulging on the stomach. Women usually carry weight in hips and thighs, but extra stomach fat collects when a person stress-eats. It could be said that women love their chocolate and comfort foods to sooth their nerves, and we fabulistas live hectic lives, today. I just admitted to suffering from this habit, and given my family’s genes, my own tendency toward anxiety, and my hold of a little extra quelque chose, this is a concern in my life. I am successfully getting fit, though, and am young yet. (Heart Disease generally hits mid-life.) Many of you know the truth of how hard losing weight is, and I give back to you my understanding. Please, be healthy.
As for the fashion: the best “lady in red” was Kelly Rowland in her gown by House of Dereon, the label by former Destiny’s Child mate, Beyoncé Knowles paired with mom Tina Knowles. How lovely.
It was sexier, bolder, and more detailed. It showed the beauty of woman; that she deserves glamor.
I have a gripe, though, about the use of perfect celebrities, instead of women afflicted or in danger of getting this disease.
Still, it was attention-getting, and it’s wonderful for these high-profile, glamorous people to work together for a cause–for all of us.
