English Tradition for Luella, Too

February 8, 2006 by Designer Ella

Luella Fall 2006Luella Bartley’s Fall 2006 collection is so British Schoolgirl of all ages. It is so British, it’s knocking us over the head to remind us, much like her Go: International ads for Target. Perhaps, Bartley or her people wanted to tie the two together, so we “buy” into her Target line (although, it’s too late for that, it’s not necessary).

Regardless, the collection is lovely. Plaids in feminine cuts, plaids overtaking. Cropped jackets, bow-ties, and lace. Sweet dresses with bow waists. 50s-era sweaters. Even some nautical stripes, an odd Spring-Fall crossover. Girlish meets menswear meets femme-punk. For accessories, mod sunglasses and pin-up pumps. And the bags at the show were all over; funky, bold, eclectic. They probably only hint at the more eccentric portion of the Fall 2006 line. And two baby Giselle’s modeled at once.

Luella Fall 2006 ShoeThe pictures took me on a quick ride, complete with thrills, without stretching the borders. This collection makes for a good signature. This is the Luella we know and love. And perhaps I understand Go: International a little bit more; will such inspirations beg for a re-stock at Target? Maybe part of the point is to leave us wanting.
