Every time Sweeps comes around, Old Navy debuts a big new commercial each week, during the Thursday night (Must See!) Prime Time lineup. This week’s final installment feature item is a big dud for me and is against Stace’s Rules.
The skirts are bohemian, which is admittedly trendy right now, but theeese, these skirts take it too far. They hit just below the calf muscle and billow out to this odd shaped disaster on just the wrong part of the body. This goes against the Rules of Curves. Some of the shaping and patterns might be nice, but not with the length. Women should not look like this!
Oh, my readers, I am so distraught. Please listen to The Rules. I am a bit of a strict nun, and I do preach to you, but please carefully consider what I say.
Hem Line Rules:
- Skirts should generally hit the leg at the middle of the knee, right at that little crease. (You know what I mean?) If you want your legs to appear longer, skirts should hit just above the knee cap. Skirts skimming any longer than these guidelines and one looks unfabulous and very small, any shorter and one is going against the very modern-today’s (as futuristic as we’ve gotten, literally speaking) sophisticated and classy sense of style. Classic and long-lasting looks are finally IN.
- Pants should be long enough to hide the socks, but short enough to not bunch up on the ground. (When the pants bunch, one looks short and unkempt, with very unattractive legs.) You will probably need different pants inseams for your flats and your heels.
- Jacket sleeves need to not conceal one’s hands. They should not go past the wrist bone. DO even get your jackets and blazers tailored.
- The bottom of tops should hit at the start of a woman’s thigh, optimally. This would just be long enough to cover the top of the ever-daring ultra low rise jeans, if you must go there. (What is best for rises, by the way, is to sit one inch under the belly button.) Belly-baring is SO 1997. Does anybody want to be Britney Spears, anymore? Even Britney, I hope (with the child), is growing up.
And that does sum up today’s style; Growing Up.
