Stand Up Against Gift Scrooges

Well, my Birthday has passed, with hardly a hoot … but plenty of dollar. I still feel gypped for the lack of unwrapping. People like to outstretch our wish list (singular) through birthdays and Christmas (oh, but I have a new list, then!) I’m worth more than that (and I know the prices of those few items). Out-of-the loop relatives should never get away with not even knowing what “they got” us! Your mother writing Dad’s name on a card?! We must take a stand! What about that present you witnessed being purchased, but disappeared at giving time? The promised check by a suddenly lazy mom? Stand up! $20 in a card if one’s over 15? Stand tall! This is each and every one of our singular, special days to rock that diva and live like a princess!

my dear? you got presents. from people who care for you. be thankful. if you would like to send them a subtle hint, perhaps choose your presents for them extra-thoughtfully this year and wrap them lavishly. and also, happy belated birthday.

I am the best giver, I am strangely transformed … up until Christmas Eve and present time. *g*

But you don’t understand, I actually received (as one of my few presents) a bottle of hand sanitizer!

Janey Says:

Git certificates can be impersonal … I agree. But sometimes your loved ones just dont know what you want! You should create a “Wish List.”

Designer Ella Says:

I had to edit your comment, Janey, because it was one big advertisement. Don’t do that, again.

I did create a Wish List on this very site!

But I’m sorry, no! Yes, there are things we want and need.

But only 1 person followed that list–and just in the slightest bit. Half of my family members got me nothing (including money).

No, just no, it’s not enough. Everyone needs to show that he or she knows us with thought & creativity in presents! Or else just don’t even come to my party, thank you!

Mallory Road Says:

I’ve got to agree with Ella on this. There seems like there are too many family members nowadays who don’t want to take the time to even acknowledge their loved one’s birthday, much less have to put any time and effort into it. I just think it’s uncalled for—these are the people who are supposed to love and care about you and really know you, but they don’t even take the time out of their lives to let you know that you’re important on your special day. This leads into so much more than not getting a gift–it’s that obviously, you don’t feel like you’re very important to them.
