Marc Jacobs Blasts a Class-of-2006-Spirit Impression
September 17, 2005 by Designer Ella
Marc Jacobs is my favorite apparel designer–yet we do not have a perfect relationship. So when I logged on to Style.com and saw his show in the spotlight, I was excited to see the pieces, and even intrigued by the mislead style of the pictured red sweater. This was going to be a fun examination and feature to write (tag line immediately in mind).
The show was dramatic and theatric; with a classic school theme appropriate for his smart style. No wonder this studious college girl, with a relish for yesteryear sophistication, is a fan. For me, and the other fashion fillies, the parade of fine apparel was the true eye-gaper show.

These skirts with over-sized bows are gorgeous. Although the white shirt is not cut well, the general look of the black and white ensemble is so elegant. Perfect for going from day to date. The colors and mixed texture palette on the 2nd outfit are fabulous; it deserves a recommendation.

Who knew Marc Jacobs was the (head) master of the jacket? The “V” button shape is universally flattering and extremely smart in design. Combine that with the exactly tailored waist, and we’ve got a blazer that is perfect for a woman’s body and gives off the sophisticated aire.
This circle print, although not overly done, is almost iconic for Jacobs’ 2006 collection, and alone makes a trip to Style.com’s Marc Jacobs page worth it. Here it is done neck-to-knee, but it’s also seen subtly. Yellow, indeed, was a major factor in the show–and looks beautiful (on a woman with the right skin tone).
