Alexandre the Exorbitant

September 18, 2005 by Designer Ella

Alexandre Herchcovitch’s Spring 2006 show was bold to say practically nothing, and quite interesting, in a way that struck me at first to be a bit, “yawn, I’ve-seen-this-before, yet-more-creative.” But after finishing my view, there is something to be said, or at least a few things I’d like to write.

(First of all, this thought struck me when looking at this dress, and inspired further review to see what more there was …)

It looks like the design is drawn on instead of sewn in. I suppose that’s the actual thing about haute designers, what makes them big, they are propelled (by talent, usually) to the means of being able to “go all out” on full-scale luxury. Drape on some layered fabrics, mix risky textures, test out some tulle! (Don’t just lie there, get to work!)

Well, he actually does! In a way.

This dress mixes bold color and line in a subtler, yet still risky way. It flows around the body like a breezy summer’s eve.

I love this whole ensemble. I crave such a coat, and I’d so rock that hat (more on the hat another day).

The pins, however, are a bit tacky, and yet again, flat and cartoonish. I’d hope they are removable.
